Footnotes

Jewels of this period often alluded to modern technology and featured elements inspired by components of machinery and modern city life. Designs were voluminous and three dimensional using contrasting metals of matte and polished finished. Jewellers such as Raymond Templier were inspired directly by city life and he spoke of seeing ideas for jewellery everywhere: "as I walk the streets... the wheels, the cars."
