錯銀錯紅銅噶舉上師銅像
西藏 十三/十四世紀
Stylistically, this silver and copper inlaid bronze of a senior lama is of a type produced by the early Kagyu orders of Central Tibet in the 13th and 14th centuries. The lama is wrapped in a heavy meditation cloak, seated upon a large double cushion. His right forearm rests on his leg while his fingers are lifted in a gesture of appeasement. The back of his robe has tight vertical folds, a common stylistic convention of the Karma Kagyu lineages during this period. A close stylistic point of comparison from the Portraits of the Masters' Collection was sold at Bonhams, New York, 14 March 2017, Lot 3250.
