A pair of Meissen gilt-bronze-mounted two-handled oval baskets, circa 1735

Modelled by J.J. Kaendler, the exterior moulded with basketwork, the basketwork handles with mask terminals emblematic of the Seasons, the inside painted with sprigs of indianische Blumen below a seeded band reserved with mostly purple chrysanthemums and peonies and foliage, reserved with panels painted with a butterfly below each handle, mounted on later gilt-bronze foliate scrollwork mounts, 25.5cm across, crossed swords marks in underglaze-blue, one with incised 12 inside footrim (very minor chips) (2)
