A Meissen deep plate, circa 1735

Painted in the style of A.F. von Löwenfinck in polychrome enamels heightened in gilding with a chinoiserie scene after an engraving by Petrus Schenk the Younger, depicting a man on horseback and a guard walking at his side within an exotic landscape, a bird in flight overhead, scattered floral sprigs to the moulded rim, 22cm diam., crossed swords mark in underglaze-blue, impressed Dreher's mark for Johann Christoph Fleischer, incised W.4.

The scene is based on an engraving by Petrus Schenk the Younger from the series Nieuwe geinventeerde Sineesen, published in Amsterdam; illustrated by C. Bodinek, Raffinesse im Akkord, II (2018), no. 289, and fully by A.L. den Blaauwen, Keramik mit Chinoiserien nach Stichen von Petrus Schenk Jun., in Keramos 31 (1966), pp.3-18. A yellow-ground vase decorated with the same scene is in the collection of the Rijksmuseum, Amsterdam (see A.L. den Blaauwen, Meissen Porcelain in the Rijksmuseum (2000), no. 196).
