A Meissen Hausmaler teabowl and saucer, circa 1720, the decoration later

En-suite with the preceding lot, decorated in the Seuter workshop in Augsburg in polychrome enamels and gilding, with a gilt ground reserved with a lady playing the lute and a putto playing the French horn, a hound at his side, within a shaped panel edged with a tooled border above a gilt scrollwork pedestal, the teabowl with similar panels depicting couples in landscapes, the teabowl: 4.6cm high; the saucer: 12.3cm diam. The present lot was part of a tea and coffee service that was sold at auction in Bern in 1963, see Ducret (1972), vol. II, p. 42, no. 123a. Ducret attributed the painting on the sugar box and cover to Elisabeth Wald-Aufenwerth, but the rest of the service's decoration to Abraham Seuter. Further pieces from the service are also illustrated in Ducret (1972), vol. II, nos. 194, 233, 247, 258, 260, 263 and colour plate XII.
