A Meissen silver-mounted Hausmaler ecuelle, cover and stand, circa 1720, the decoration circa 1735

Decorated in the Seuter workshop in Augsburg, painted by Abraham Seuter in Schwarzlot and iron-red flesh tones with gallant figures in landscapes, within silver scroll- and strapwork cartouches, the cover with three cartouches enclosing bust portraits of ladies, alternating with silver trellis panels, the silver mounts marked for Elias Adam, Augsburg, the ecuelle mounted with two pierced strap- and scrollwork handles incorporating floral and shell motifs, the ecuelle: 10.7cm high; the stand: 18.4cm diam., incised x inside footrim of stand for J.D. Rehschuh (some retouching to silver decoration on ecuelle and cover) (3)

One of the scenes on the ecuelle is based on an engraving by Thomasin fil. after Watteau, 'Coquettes qui pour voir galans au rendez-vous', published by S. Ducret, Meißner Porzellan bemalt in Augsburg, II (1972), ill. 198; the scene on the stand is based on an engraving by Charles-Nicolia II Cochin, 'Dans cette aimable solitude... Leur discours seroit plus tendre', after a (lost) painting by Nicolas Lancret.
