A rare Meissen circular stand, circa 1725-30

The centre painted with a chinoiserie scene, possibly by Johann Christoph Horn, depicting a standing figure wearing a black hat flanked by flowering plants with a fence and rockwork to one side, a bird and insects overhead, within a border of gilt strap- and scrollwork, the rim decorated with three chinoiserie scenes by a different hand depicting figures engaged in various amusing pursuits within gilt borders edged with Böttger lustre and iron-red scrolls, alternating with gilt foliate strapwork enclosing a floral motif, the reverse with two branches of indianische Blumen, 22.3cm diam., crossed swords mark in underglaze-blue (very minor rubbing to centre)

Footnotes

The style of decoration is related to two stands, formerly in the Hoffmeister Collection, Hamburg (sold in these Rooms, 25 November 2209, lot 9; the second offered 24 November 2010, lot 10) and another stand in the Dresden porcelain collection (inv. no. PE 1520, published by U. Pietsch/C. Banz (eds.), Triumph der blauen Schwerter (2000), no. 80), all of which have an iron-red mark that was first attributed by Ingelore Menzhausen to the painter Johann Christoph Horn.
