Modelled probably by J. Desoches with his head turned to his left, incised at the rear 'LAOCOON.LE.VIEUX/ J N.O.5.', 23.5cm high, impressed horse mark (shaft at rear damaged)

A smaller example of this bust is in the Herzog Anton Ulrich-Museum in Braunschweig (Weißes Gold aus Fürstenberg, exhibition catalogue (1989), no. 330; this model was produced in four sizes of which the present lot (no. 5) is the largest.
