Footnotes

Clemens Wenzeslaus of Saxony (1738-1812) was the second son of the Elector Augustus II of Saxony/King Augustus III of Poland and brother of the Electress of Bavaria, Maria Anna Sophie. He was Prince Bishop of Regensburg and Freising between 1763 and 1768 and subsequently Elector and Archbishop of Trier and Prince Bishop of Augsburg.

The portrait is after an engraving by Johann Michael Söckler. A similar Nymphenburg oval snuff box with the same portrait of Clemens Wenzeslaus on the inside cover and purple monochrome allegorical scenes on the exterior is in the Bäuml Collection, Munich (published by Alfred Ziffer, Nymphenburger Porzellan Sammlung Bäuml (1997), no. 729).
