A Meissen model of a sheep, mid 18th century

Modelled by Peter Reinicke, naturalistically coloured, on a base applied with branches, leaves and flowers, 14.5cm high, crossed swords in underglaze-blue to the back of the base

Another example of the model looking to the left is in the collection of the Landesmuseum, Schwerin, illustrated in Carl Albiker, Die Meissener Porzellantiere im 18. Jahrhundert (1959), no. 213. He mentions Reinicke's work records: 'detto (Schaf) aufrecht stehend ... zum Basseng in Thon boussirt.' (Albiker, p. 24). A pair of similar sheep were sold in these rooms, 5 July 2018, lot 103.
