A Meissen silver-gilt-mounted tankard, circa 1740

Painted in Kakiemon style with a phoenix perched on flowering branches issuing from banded hedges and another phoenix in flight overhead, the back with scattered butterflies and flowers, the strap handle with an iron-red flower, moulded with an acanthus leaf terminal, the silver-gilt cover unmarked, with a scroll thumbpiece, the tip inscribed 'L.O.S.S/ A.AA.D.W/ 1782/ OS' within foliate scrollwork, the footrim mount with a foliate band, 16cm high, crossed swords mark in blue
