A Du Paquier tobacco box and cover, circa 1730

Of rectangular form with fluted corners and moulded with fluted brackets below the rim on the narrow sides (one pierced), painted with European flower sprays between formal Baroque borders of trellis panels flanked by scroll- and strapwork, the cover with a putto finial, the rim and loop at one end silvered, the gilt-edged cover painted with a similar border, applied with a finial in the form of a seated putto holding a gilt staff above his head, one end moulded with a gilt lock through a loop, 17.5cm high, red-painted MAK inventory number Ke 7742.29407 (chip to rim of box beneath cover) (2)
