Recognising the increasing demand for off-road styled models, BMW re-entered the ISDT in 1979 as a means of publicising its forthcoming range of enduro roadsters. The first of these, the R80G/S, was announced in September 1980. Based on the equivalent R80/7 roadster, the G/S featured a 21" front wheel, raised mudguards, a high-level exhaust system, and a single-sided swinging arm. Strikingly finished in white with a red seat, the R80G/S was too heavy for serious rough stuff but nevertheless excelled as a long-distance tourer, a market sector that its successors dominate to this today.
Testing the 'gentleman's green laner' R80G/S in 1981, Bike magazine observed: "Even on regular continental roads... the BMW road bike is still regarded as the ultimate touring motorcycle – and with good reason. Its ability to soak up the most bizarre road conditions and still maintain a reasonable cruising speed is legendary. The R80GS is in the same mould, it's just rather more styled and modified to cope with some of the expected extremes."
This example of BMW's legendary trend-setting off-roader has been completely restored with the exception of the seat, which remains original. The machine is offered with Swiss registration papers.

Identifiant une croissance de la demande en faveur de modèles style tout-terrain, BMW reparut aux ISDT en 1979 dans l'intention de promouvoir sa future gamme de machines d'enduro. La marque annonça en septembre 1980 la première de la lignée, la R80G/S. Sur la base de la routière R80/7 équivalente, la G/S se caractérisait par une roue avant de 21 pouces, des garde-boue rehaussés, un échappement relevé et un monobras oscillant. Spectaculairement peinte en blanc et dotée d'une selle rouge, la R80 G/S qui apparut trop lourde pour une véritable utilisation en tout-terrain se montra néanmoins excellente en tant que routière endurante, un segment de marché que ses descendantes dominent encore aujourd'hui.
Essayant la R80G/S (« la moto verte du gentleman ») en 1981, le magazine Bike écrivit : « Même sur les routes européennes ordinaires...la BMW de route est encore considérée comme la moto de tourisme par excellence et non sans raison. Son aptitude à affronter les conditions de route les plus inattendues tout en maintenant une vitesse de croisière raisonnable est légendaire. La R80G/S du même tonneau qui présente un style un peu plus radical a été modifiée pour affronter éventuellement des circonstances plus extrêmes. »
Cet exemplaire de la légendaire et originale BMW tout-terrain a été totalement restauré sauf la selle d'origine. Elle est accompagnée de ses documents d'immatriculation suisses.
