A small Bow model of a pug dog, circa 1755

Recumbent on a cushion with yellow corner tassels and painted with floral sprigs, its front legs outstretched and its head turned to one side, wearing a blue studded collar applied with a single floret, its coat picked out in brown, 5.8cm long

A pair of similar pug dogs from the David Thorn Collection was sold by Sotheby's on 29 September 1987, lot 107, one of which is illustrated by Peter Bradshaw, Bow Porcelain Figures (1992), p.167, fig.190. A similar model is in the Victoria and Albert Museum (accession no. C.1324-1924). See also a version of the pair to this model from the Billie Pain Collection sold by Bonhams on 26 November 2003, lot 39.
