Painted with autumn fruits set against mossy grounds, comprising a powder puff bowl and cover, the cover silver mounted and painted by Edward Townsend, the finial modelled as an apple issuing leaves and blackberries, 15cm diam, signature, puce marks and shape number 2929 to underside, the mount with hallmarks for Henry James Hulbert, London 1931, an ovoid vase by Horace Price, signed, 15.3cm high, puce mark, shape number 2572, and a plate by Bryan Cox, signed, 15.7cm diam, black mark (4)

Footnotes

The powder puff box and cover is described in the Shape Book as a 'Fruit Knop Puff Bowl and Cover' and was modelled by Betzeman. The printed factory mark includes the title 'The Apple of Pomona', perhaps a trade name of the company who commissioned these unusual boxes from the factory.
