A Bristol teacup and saucer from the Ludlow Service, circa 1775-80

With an entwined scroll handle, painted with the arms of Ludlow within a gilded rococo cartouche surrounded by flower sprigs, the border with alternate panels of puce diaper and green caillouté edged with gilt scrolls issuing flower sprigs, gilt dentil rims, saucer 12.6cm diam (2)

The arms are of Daniel Ludlow of Campden, Gloucestershire. The hot water jug and a spoon tray from the service are in the Bristol City Museum and Art Gallery. The spoon tray and a spoon are illustrated by F Severne Mackenna, The Mackenna Collection, Part 3 (1975), p.52, nos.14 and 15. Another teacup and saucer was sold by Bonhams on 6 June 2007, lot 365.
