Prominent Parisian founder and gilder Henri Picard was celebrated for his outstanding creation of decorative objects during his career, spanning from 1831 to 1864. Picard's highest achievement was his work on Napoleon III's Petits Appartments, now on display at the Louvre. Picard was particularly known for his fine quality production of pièces de table and garnitures de cheminée.

A similar table garniture was sold at Christie's New York in 2011 in their 500 Years: Decorative Arts Europe, including Oriental Carpets sale for $47,500 (lot 59).
