Achroite: Near-colorless Tourmaline

Achroite tourmaline is a member of the Elbaite sub-group of tourmalines, many of which are heated to make them a more saturated color—rarely are they left in their original colorless state. The present example is a circular-cut stone of high clarity and luster, RHC4310. Weighing approximately 4.71 carats and measuring 11.25 x 7.04 mm

Collection notes: "A 4.71 transparent white round brilliant cut tourmaline. I cut the stone. Bought the rough on my first trip to Peshawar, Pakistan. If you irradiate it there is enough manganese in it that it will turn a very nice pink color. "
