Footnotes

Fritz Scholder was one of the first artists invited to collaborate with the Tamarind Institute's lithography workshop after they opened at the University of New Mexico in Albuquerque; ultimately, Scholder worked with the studio for 14 years, producing hundreds of prints between 1970 and 1984. Scholder's work in lithography allowed him to experiment more freely with color, texture, and composition by infusing Pop sensibilities into his usual themes of stereotypes and the morbid. It also afforded him a way to create an active conversation between his new work and his previous paintings; in many cases elaborating upon or reworking previous subjects to evoke something new.
