Footnotes

Carver Eli Sallualu Qinuajua's work epitomizes the post-1950s Puvirnituq carving style. Works by Puvirnitug artists "rarely [portray] domestic scenes; instead, the sculptures pay tribute to the exploits of hunters, both human and animal, and illustrate mythological and personal narratives" (Hessel, 82). In particular, Qinuajua's work focuses on representations of surrealist creatures, dreams, and the fantastic.
