Koenshi Osai (active 18th/19th century)

A two-case lacquered-bamboo inro
Edo period (1615-1868), 18th/19th century

Decorated in iro-e takamaki-e on a polished bamboo ground with a pair of cranes by banana plants and chrysanthemums, signed Osai and with the artist's kao; fitted with a hardstone bead ojime and an ebony wood netsuke carved as an eggplant resting on a wood board, applied with a silvered suspension ring with chrysanthemum bosses
