MISSING SOLDIER'S ROLL.

BARTON, CLARA. 1821-1912. Roll of Missing Men-No. 4. To Returned Soldiers and Others. Washington, D.C.: May 1, 1866. Large folio broadside (615 x 695 mm). Mildly spotted, damp stains at upper margin, separations at center folds.
Provenance: estate of Clara Barton; estate of Julian B. Hubbell; by descent to the present owner.

RARE COPY OF THE FOURTH MISSING SOLDIER'S ROLL PUBLISHED BY CLARA BARTON. This is the fourth of 5 rolls published by Barton on behalf of her Missing Soldiers project; she opens with a letter before listing the list features approximately 1500 names. In part: "This roll, No. 4, a continuation of No. 3, is composed entirely of names of soldiers who have been killed in battle, died in southern prisons, or otherwise lost in the service, and whose fate is unknown to their friends. / Please examine these rolls and if you have facts relating to any one herein named, communicate them to me by letter...."
