A NEEDLEPOINT SAMPLER BY DOLLY BARTON, 1812.

An American needlepoint sampler, 15 1/2 by 10 1/2 inches, featuring the alphabet, numbers, an aphorism, and a view of the house and grounds, signed "Dolly Barton Oxford 1812 aged 7" in needlepoint.

This sampler was executed by Clara's oldest sister Dorothea ("Dolly") Barton (1804-1846). Dolly and Clara's other sister Sara "Sally" Barton Vassal (1811-1874) were responsible for their youngest sister's education. Dolly was the first of the Barton siblings to pass away.
