The Sultanate of Rum seceded from the Great Seljuk Empire in AD 1077 and established its capital at Konya. During the reign of Kaykhusraw II the forces of the Mongol Empire crushed the Sultanate's army and the Sultanate became a vassal state of the Mongols.
