This helmet was made to resemble the type of turban worn in India in the 17th century and was formed in three separate pieces: the wide band encircling the head, the crown and the rounded section over the forehead. For another Deccani turban helmet in the Nasser D. Khalili Collection of Islamic Art, also formed of three elements, see David Alexander, The Arts of War, London, 1992, pp. 104-5, no. 104.
