A Fine Cased Pair Of 25-Bore Flintlock Duelling Pistols
By Barber & Boaler, Newark, Circa 1815

With browned twist octagonal sighted barrels each signed along the top flat forward of the breech and stamped along the bottom flat with crowned 'IS' mark and 'Stubs Twisted', case-hardened breeches each with gold line and gold-lined touch-hole, border engraved case-hardened tangs each decorated with a martial trophy amid foliage, signed border engraved case-hardened flat bevelled locks each decorated with foliage at the stepped tail and with a starburst behind the semi-rainproof pan, cocks engraved en suite including the top-jaws and screws, and blued steel-springs each with roller, the internal working parts retaining their brightly burnished finish, highly figured full stocks each with chequered rounded butt including outlined pommel, blued steel trigger-guards each with pineapple finial and decorated with a martial trophy and foliage on the border engraved bow, blued turned ramrod-pipes, vacant silver escutcheons and barrel-bolt escutcheons, blued adjustable set triggers, original horn-tipped ramrods, one with worm and the other with threaded powder-measure over a further worm, and retaining virtually all their original finish: in later lined and fitted oak case with accessories including brass-mounted three-way powder-flask covered in red leather (scuffed), case-hardened mainspring clamp and steel bullet mould, the interior of the lid with earlier illustrated trade label of Isaac Barber for circa 1773-98, the exterior with circular escutcheon, probably from the original case, incorporating a flush-fitting carrying handle and both with finely beaded borders, private Birmingham proof marks
