A Rare Cased Pair Of 60-Bore Flintlock Box-Lock Side-By-Side Tap-Action Pistols
By Whateley, Probably For John Or Henry Whateley Of Birmingham, Circa 1800

With turn-off barrels each engraved around the muzzle and numbered respectively from nothing to '3', border engraved part octagonal breeches numbered to correspond, border engraved actions each signed against a martial trophy on one side and decorated with a further martial trophy on the other, large rectangular pairs, thumbpiece safety-catches also locking the steels, trigger-guards each with an engraved flower-head on the bow, and figured flat-sided butts: in their lined and fitted oak case with accessories including three-way powder-flask with leather-covered body, turnscrew retaining its brass pricker, and steel bullet mould, the interior of the lid with trade label of William Bond, 59 Lombard Street, London for circa 1810-1846, the exterior of the lid with reeded edges and flush-fitting brass carrying handle, London proof marks
