An Unusual 28-Bore Flintlock All-Metal Belt Pistol With Rifled Barrel
By John Murdoch Of Doune, Late 18th Century

With four-stage sighted barrel rifled with eight grooves and engraved with symmetrical designs of foliage at the flared octagonal muzzle, along the mid-section and in front of the ridged and fluted breech, signed border engraved flat bevelled lock engraved with scrolling foliage on the tail, cock en suite, three-quarter stock engraved with scrolling foliage within line ornament, and with three foliate engraved silver panels along the underside, 'ram's horn' butt engraved en suite, inlaid with silver interlace along the back and with a vacant oval silver escutcheon on each side, silver button trigger and threaded pricker each engraved as a flower-head, slender engraved belt hook with central spiral flutes, the terminal pierced and engraved with foliage, and original slender steel ramrod with pierced baluster tip (some old scattered light pitting in places)
