A South Indian Pata, And An Indian Circular Dhal
The First 17th Century, The Second Late 19th Century

The first with European broad tapering double-edged blade with shallow fuller over each side of the forte, characteristic iron hilt shaped over the hand and fore-arm, extending as two plates riveted over the forte and each with shaped terminal, the hand (old holes) with medial ridge and borders chased with running flower-heads, the fore-arm cut with slender vertical flutes, shaped applied border mounts around the hand and upper fore-arm secured by rivets and chiselled in low relief with arabesques, and with numerous cross-shaped piercings along each side, iron wrist-mount, and tubular grip (some wear and rust patination); the second of convex polished brass with four line engraved brass bosses against a ground profusely chased with foliage, the centre with a roundel pierced and chased with foliage centred on a flower-head, the outer border with running foliage en suite, the interior retaining its velvet-covered pad and bracers (2)
