A Cased 32-Bore Percussion Rifled D.B. Travelling Pistol
By R. Anderson, 37 Cockspur St., London, No. 163, Circa 1831

With brown twist sighted barrels signed in full along the rib and each rifled with nine grooves, case-hardened breeches engraved with a scallop shell ahead of two platinum lines and each with pierced platinum plug, case-hardened tang engraved with scrolling foliage, signed border engraved flat locks and dolphin hammers en suite, figured full stock (old vice marks around the lock cavities) with chequered rounded butt, border engraved steel mounts decorated with scrolling foliage and comprising trigger-guard, trigger-plate with pineapple-shaped finial and fore-end cap retained by a screw at the front, vacant silver escutcheon and barrel-bolt escutcheons, no provision for a ramrod, and retaining some of its original finish: in later lined and fitted oak case with some accessories including brass-mounted powder-flask, the interior of the lid with trade label of Edward Whistler for 1844-75, the exterior (minor old split at the back) with circular vacant brass escutcheon, London proof marks

Robert Anderson is recorded at 31 Cockspur Street, London in 1831. He was a Journeyman working for Forsyth & Co. between 1812 and 1818 before becoming a gunmaker in his own right
