A Fine Cased Pair Of 28-Bore Silver-Mounted Percussion Duelling Pistols
By Jover, London, London Silver Hallmarks For 1777, Maker's Mark Of John King, Converted From Flintlock By William Hollis, Cheltenham, Circa 1850

With browned octagonal sighted barrels each signed in script along the top flat, border engraved case-hardened breeches each with back-sight, foliate engraved tangs, signed border engraved case-hardened detented locks finely decorated with scrolling foliage and each with sliding safety-catch behind the dolphin hammer, figured full stocks each carved in relief with a shell behind the barrel tang, mounts cast and chased in low relief and comprising pierced foliate side-plates involving a scallop shell and flower-heads, escutcheons engraved with owner's crest and initials and framed by inlaid silver wire scrollwork, spurred pommels each with grotesque mask cap framed by foliate strapwork, trigger-guards in the French taste each with acorn finial and engraved with a flower-head on the bow, silver ramrod-pipes, adjustable set triggers, horn fore-end caps, and horn-tipped ramrods, one original: in the converter's fitted mahogany case lined in dark velvet with some accessories including brass-mounted three-way powder-flask, the interior of the lid with William Hollis's trade label, the exterior with flush-fitting carrying handle, London proof marks
