A 14-Bore Flintlock Sporting Gun
By John Manton, London, Circa 1808

With sighted two-stage Tuscan barrel struck with crowned mark of Cristiano Leoni of Pistoia (Neue Støckel 7774) at the breech (old vice marks on both sides), patent breech with rectangular gold-lined maker's stamp, gold line and platinum-lined touch-hole, border engraved tang decorated with a trophy and foliage, signed border engraved flat lock with rainproof pan and roller, the tail of the lock decorated with a gamebird in a landscape, border engraved 'French' cock with a part trophy and foliage, figured half-stock (some wear and old bruising, fore-end with two old splits) with cheek-piece, chequered grip and dark horn fore-end cap, border engraved steel mounts comprising butt-plate with faint traces of decoration on the heel tang, trigger-guard with a landscape scene on the bow, trigger-plate with pineapple finial, silver barrel-bolt escutcheons, and later brass-tipped ramrod (metal parts pitted and worn overall)
