A Cased 13-Bore Percussion D.B. Sporting Gun
By Joseph Manton, London, No. 7113 For 1816

Rebuilt from flintlock, with rebrowned twist sighted barrels engraved 'Joseph Manton's New Improvements By His Majesty's Patent' along the rib (partly loose) and each with rectangular silver-lined maker's stamp and silver line at the breech, border engraved breeches each with short platinum line, pierced platinum plug and engraved with a Herculean club and foliage between, tang engraved with a starburst, a martial trophy and foliage, signed border engraved case-hardened flat locks each decorated with foliage and with a trophy on the tail, foliate engraved dolphin hammers, figured half-stock with chequered grip, border engraved blued steel mounts decorated with martial trophies and comprising butt-plate and trigger-guard (both with some loss of finish), trigger-plate with pineapple finial, rear ramrod-pipe en suite, vacant silver escutcheon, sling mounts, and brass-mounted ramrod: in later relined and refitted mahogany case with some accessories including embossed powder-flask, leather shot-flask, circular brass percussion cap dispenser, nipple-key and Sykes patent shot dispenser, the interior of the lid with reproduction trade label, the exterior with shaped vacant brass escutcheon, London proof marks
