A Rare Saxon 18-Bore Wheel-Lock Holster Pistol (Puffer) Of The Trabantan Bodyguard Of The Elector Christian I (Reg. 1560-1591)
Dated 1590

With swamped two-stage barrel with slender turned lines, octagonal breech dated on the top flat and stamped at the rear with maker's initials 'GO' (Neue Støckel 2687), plain tang, flat lock stamped with the same maker's mark and with pointed tail and flat wheel-cover, the latter with slender concentric circles, incised safety-catch with button and acting against a chiselled spring, cock acting on a chiselled spring, and sprung sliding pan-cover with release-button chased with foliage, blackened full stock stamped in imitation of natural staghorn and sparsely inlaid with scroll and foliate engraved white staghorn or bone plaques, and with a panel either side of the tang with a profile head between scrolls, ball pommel inlaid with white staghorn or bone roundel engraved with the arms of Saxony and the Hereditary Archmarshalship of the Holy Roman Empire, collar engraved with ropework, circular side-nail washers with flower-heads, foliate engraved trigger-plate, rear ramrod-pipe and fore-end cap each with overlapping foliage, iron trigger-guard, and original ramrod with tip en suite with the fore-end cap
