A .577 Snider Mark III Cavalry Carbine
No. 4788, Dated 1871

With sighted rifled barrel retained by a Baddeley patent barrel band, calibrated folding adjustable back-sight with an original leather cover, pivoting breech-block with sprung catch, chained striker-protector, flat lock retaining some original case-hardening stamped 'Enfield' beneath the date and crowned broad arrow mark, and with crowned 'V.R' on the tail, figured half-stock (some old bruising) stamped with circular Enfield arsenal mark over '1' on one side of the butt, regulation brass mounts including butt-plate with hinged circular butt-trap cover opening to reveal original steel two-piece cleaning rod, Ordnance proof marks
