Footnotes

The etched decoration is comparable to that found on an armour made for Philip II (r. 1556-1598) in Augsburg by Desiderius Helmschmid in 1546 and etched by Ulrich Holzmann. The armour in the Kunsthistorisches Museum, Vienna (A547) and other parts belonging to the garniture are in other museum collections including a pair of gauntlets in the Metropolitan Museum of Art, New York (inv. no. 14.25.901 a & b)
