A German (Nuremberg) Shot-Proof Target
Circa 1600

Of heavy russet steel and circular convex form, the centre fitted with a faceted bud-shaped spike centred on four pairs of cast brass human masks, the faceted outer edge followed by dome-headed lining rivets each on a floret-shaped gilt-brass washer retaining the internal leather lining (damaged) and silk fringe, one facet on the outer edge struck with the Nuremberg mark
58.5 cm. diam.
