A Rare Spanish Bronze 4 Pdr. Breech-Loading Cannon
Late 17th/Early 18th Century

Of tapering four-stage form cast in relief with raised mouldings and with flared and turned muzzle, the second reinforce cast in relief with the crowned Spanish arms, open breech drilled with a drainage hole and formed to accept a separate mug-shaped bronze chamber (missing) originally secured by a wooden wedge, trunnions, the right one incised with the weight number '2 Qs. 15', and turned rounded base pierced with a hole for a tiller (the surface with light green patination over some wear and corrosion)
66 cm. barrel, 7.7 cm. bore, 98 cm. overall
