An English Rapier
Mid-17th Century

With long tapering blade of slightly hollowed triangular section double-edged at the point, rectangular ricasso hollowed on each side, iron hilt comprising shallow cup-guard chiselled and punched with concentric bands of foliage, side-rings each chiselled with central foliate feature and linked by a scrolled bar to the knuckle-guard, the latter screwed to the pommel and with central swelling chiselled with foliage, quillons with terminals en suite, chiselled globular pommel with raised up button, and writhen grip bound with twisted iron wire between Turk's heads (some repairs and pitting overall)
