An English 'Mortuary' Hilted Broadsword
Mid-17th Century

With broad double-edged blade (repairs) incised 'ANDRIA' between marks within the shallow fuller on one side of the forte and 'FEPAPA' within the other, hilt comprising solid guard chiselled with symmetrical foliage, scrolled wrist-guard, knuckle-guard connected by two diagonal bars to two bifurcated side-bars crudely chiselled with foliage, the knuckle-guard and side-bars screwed to the chiselled globular pommel with flattened button, and spirally-grooved grip bound with twisted copper wire between Turk's heads (some pitting overall)
