Footnotes

Provenance
Cohen Collection, Albert Amor 1992 exhibition, no.6
Ralph Kenber Collection

The smallest of three sizes produced at Worcester, this form of sauceboat is found at Lund's Bristol with underglaze blue decoration; for an example see Simon Spero, The A J Smith Collection (2006), p.76, no.6. The polychrome version adopted at Worcester allows for much more detail to be painted in the panels and along the high inside rim, often a precarious position where underglaze blue can blur and 'bleed'. As is usually the case with Worcester sauceboats of this early period, the moulded decoration differs on each side.
