Footnotes

Provenance
Simon Spero Exhibition 1992, no.22
Ralph Kenber Collection

Compare with the similar jug from the John Alchin Collection lot 24 in this sale. The overall composition of the pattern is the same but there are significant differences in the arrangement of the flowering plants to the left. The painting is certainly by a different hand but the subtlety of the decoration remains the same, drawing influences from China, Meissen and Staffordshire saltglaze. A very similar jug to the present lot is illustrated by John Sandon, Dictionary of Worcester Porcelain (1993), p.320.
