A Worcester small mug, circa 1762

Of bell shape with a grooved loop handle, painted in Kakiemon colours with a version of the 'Two Quail' pattern, the two birds by a flowering prunus tree among scattered flower sprigs, leaves and insects, below an iron-red foliate border, details picked out with gilding, 8.4cm high

The Quail pattern had already enjoyed a decade of popularity at Bow before Worcester introduced the version used on this delightful small mug, executed with particular care.
