Footnotes

Provenance
Ralph Kenber Collection

This distinctive Worcester shape, adapted from a Chinese original, was produced earlier in the 1750s. It is possible this vase remained undecorated for some time due to firing imperfections and the highly unusual addition of insects on the current lot may represent an attempt to disguise kiln problems. A similar vase from The Zorensky Collection was sold by Bonhams, 22 February 2006, lot 40.
