Of quatrelobed shape, the crisply moulded double-scrolled handle with raised thumbrest, the front panel delicately painted with a 'Long Eliza' figure holding a parasol, the side panels with flowering plants growing from rockwork, a long-tailed bird perched on one of them, 6.8cm high

Quatrelobed Coffee Cups

Elegant yet impractical, this form shows a strong Meissen influence. Matching saucers for this rare form of cup are not recorded, suggesting that they were intended as cabinet pieces rather than objects of practical use. As well as the pattern represented here, the model is also recorded in famille verte style, see Sandon and Spero, The Zorensky Collection (1996), no.21, p.79. Curiously, only two examples are known in underglaze blue.
