The Banded Hedge Pattern

Based on the Japanese 'Three Friends' pattern, arguably via Meissen, Worcester's interpretation of the 'Banded Hedge' pattern does not include the pine tree featured in the oriental original. At Worcester, yellow was effectively used to enliven this pattern and set it apart not only from the Japanese original, but from more subdued versions at Chelsea and Bow.

A lobed teapot in this pattern is illustrated by Simon Spero, The Klepser Collection (1984), p.23, no.5, colour pl.5.
