An unusuallly large boar-tusk netsuke of a dragon

By Kanman (1793-1859), Iwami Province, dated 1829
The tusk of pronounced curvature, carved in relief with a dragon amid clouds, extending almost along the entire length, signed Bunsei juninen ... sangatsu hi Iwami no ju Kanman saku (made by Kanman, a resident of Iwami, on a day in the third month ... of the twelfth year of Bunsei) with a kao. 13.8cm (5 3/8in).

Saleroom notices

For lots 86 to 125 (with exception to lot 112), according to his descendants, the correct reading of the carver's name is Tsuramitsu. Kanman was his probable nickname.
