A rare Boxwood netsuke of Gama sennin

By Mitani Goho, Aki Province, dated 1804
Half-kneeling and crying out in pain as he is almost crushed beneath the weight of a huge toad resting on his shoulders, one leg trailing down his back, the skin of the frog rendered with ukibori pimples, signed with partially-erased ukibori characters Goho Tani Kotsu saku kinoe-ne mo ... (made by Goho Tani Kotsu in early ..., in the first year of the cycle [1804]). 5.3cm (2 1/8in) high.
