A boxwood netsuke of a frog on a lotus pod
By Mitani Goho, Aki Province, late 18th/early 19th century
The frog clambering onto the top of a lotus-seed pod, one trailing leg resting on the stalk, the seeds inlaid in ebony, the frog's skin rendered with ukibori pimples and the skin of the pod carved with ukibori pimples and veins, signed Goho. 4.2cm (1 5/8in).
