A boxwood netsuke of a frog on driftwood
By Mitani Goho, Aki Province, 1809
The frog squatting on an old, weathered piece of driftwood, facing ahead and with one foot resting on the edge of a hole in the wood, its skin covered with ukibori pimples and its eyes inlaid, signed Bunka tsuchinoto-mi Aki Goho (Goho, autumn of the tsuchinoto-mi year of Bunka [1809]). 5.2cm (2in).
